In Lieu of Prison: Lydia's First Day
​Lydia Carpenter is convicted of a felony she didn't commit and is given a choice between four years in the state penitentiary or 144 days at a disciplinary diversion facility. She is told only that at the disciplinary diversion facility, she must waive all rights to bodily autonomy and Eighth Amendment protections, but that in return, she receives this considerably shortened sentence, a private, comfortable room, and good meals. Plus, when she completes her sentence, her record will be expunged of the felony, and she can return to her life with a clean record.
She makes the obvious choice and soon finds herself humiliated, degraded, and forced to perform and endure acts she would never have imagined as she enters the world of disciplinary diversion.

The Senator: Training Lydia
After Lydia's harrowing first day at the Disciplinary Diversion Facility at Gilroy, she can't imagine what's still in store for her. Her training begins with a two-hour session with a distinguished guest, who gives her a thorough introduction to what will be expected of her as an inmate at DDF-Gilroy. Then, she is subjected to her first formal punishment for all the ways she failed during her guest session. It's only her second day, with 142 to go. How will she make it through this sentence?

Better Than Prison: Lydia's Third Day
Lydia's training continues. First, she must be punished for her failures the previous night. The punishment is unusual and creative, and Lydia learns a lot not only about herself but about the men guarding her. But when she pushes one of them too far, he comes down hard on her. After her ordeal at his hands, the guards have yet another surprise for her, but this one, she might not mind so much.
